A comprehensive care guide for all crystals and minerals
Safe cleaning, energy cleansing, storage and handling practices. Follow these guidelines to keep any crystal or mineral vibrant and structurally sound.
Cleaning and Handling
- Dust regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For durable stones, a gentle rinse in lukewarm water is fine—always dry immediately.
- Avoid water for softer or water-soluble minerals, especially those ending in “-ite” (examples: selenite, malachite,
- Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as these can damage surfaces.
- Use a very soft brush and mild soap only on tougher minerals. For fragile pieces, do not scrub or soak.
- Handle all crystals and minerals carefully to avoid chips or scratches. Handle delicate or rare specimens with gloves and support from underneath.
Storage and Display
- Keep crystals away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent color fading, particularly for amethyst, citrine, fluorite, rose quartz, aquamarine, celestite, kunzite, smoky quartz, and turquoise.
- Store in soft pouches, separate boxes, or interior dividers to prevent contact damage. Display in glass or acrylic cases to protect from dust.
- Maintain stable temperatures and low humidity, especially for minerals like pyrite and opal that can oxidize or crack.
Energy Cleansing Methods
- Smudging: Cleanse with sage, palo santo, or incense smoke for energetic clearing.
- Sound: Use singing bowls, chimes, or bells to reset multiple crystals at once.
- Moonlight: Place under moonlight (especially a full moon) overnight to recharge energies.
- Selenite or clear quartz: Lay other stones near or atop to purify their energy.
- Intent: Hold and visualize desired cleansing, focusing intention for energetic reset
- Water or salt: Only for water-safe crystals, briefly rinse or soak in saltwater, then rinse with pure water. Never use saltwater for porous or metal-rich stones like pyrite, lapis lazuli, opal, or hematite.
- Special Care Note Label each specimen with acid-free paper, including names and provenance. Keep labels outside the storage case to avoid contact with minerals.
- For mineral collections, separate radioactive, toxic, or fragile minerals and, if necessary, store them outside living spaces.
- Cleanse crystals energetically once a week if used frequently, or after intense emotional events or healing sessions.
By following these essential steps, crystals and minerals will remain energetically strong, visually beautiful, and safe to handle and display for years to come.
